EVENING ELEPHANTS 4/25

— April 25, 2025 —

April 25 at Sonia in Cambridge was one of those nights where everything fell into place perfectly. Evening Elephants headlined the Friday night show, and the atmosphere was just right—laid-back, warm, and filled with people there to enjoy great music. The openers, two Boston-based bands, set the tone beautifully. Fai Laci, led by Luke Faillaci, brought a catchy indie rock sound, while Copilot delivered an Americana-pop vibe. The mix of styles was perfect, setting the stage for an unforgettable night, with both bands warming up the crowd with their impressive vocals and authentic performances.

Meeting Evening Elephants before the show made the experience even better. Their manager, Seth, was incredibly kind and welcoming, and getting a chance to chat with lead singer Sam was a highlight—he shared some insight into their creative process, and you could feel how thoughtful they are about what they create (more on that below). Their set had an effortless ease to it, with great sound and a relaxed, goofy energy that made the performance feel even more special. They played “Snow on the Bluff” twice (bless), which made my night since that song has been stuck on repeat in my head. “Life Is Swell” and “Rent Free” are my absolute favorites—the emotional range they cover between songs is unreal.

Evening Elephants is easily my favorite band I have come across in 2025. Their music, their vibe, their style—all of it is top-tier. And it is clear they are not going to stay in these small venues for long. As much as I enjoy seeing them in spots like Sonia, it is obvious they are headed for much bigger stages. They have got the talent, the style, and the chemistry to take over, and I cannot wait to watch it happen. Also wanted to highlight their merch—I picked up a t-shirt and instantly loved the print, but more importantly, the dropped shoulder look. Wish more bands went for that look. It just shows how careful the band is about their overall vibe and attention to detail. After the show, the band stuck around to sign shirts and chat with anyone who wanted to hang, which just added to the great vibe of the night. Hoping they make it back to the Boston area again soon!

Insights from Sam of Evening Elephants:

I had the chance to chat with Sam, the lead singer of Evening Elephants, and got a deeper look into how the band came together. What started with backyard parties, a name that just clicked, and a near-quitting moment ended up turning into something bigger than they expected.

On how it all began:

Sam and Brandon, the drummer and producer of Evening Elephants, met a while back, and while they clicked instantly, it took a couple of years before they decided to make music together. Sam was at a point where he was ready to walk away from music completely—until Evening Elephants happened and reignited his creative spark.

On the name:

The band name “Evening Elephants” was inspired by a Japanese manga series that Sam enjoys. He gives credit to their manager, Seth, for suggesting it. After exploring a few different possibilities, this one just clicked and felt like the ideal choice.

On the logo:

The logo is an upside-down “@” symbol. At first, it looks like an “e,” but the curve also gives off elephant trunk vibes. It is simple, clean, and clever—just the perfect fit for the band’s overall vibe.

On the early days:

Before the band stepped onto official stages, it was all about throwing backyard parties. They would invite as many people as they could, amp up the crowd, and keep the energy flowing non-stop. The vibe was incredible, and those early events were a massive success—setting the stage for everything that came after.
